Wetter Simbach am Inn is a German municipality in the district of Rottal-Inn, in Bavaria. It is situated on the Inn River, approximately 20 kilometers (12 miles) northwest of Passau. The town is known for its beautiful scenery and its historic old town.
The name Simbach am Inn derives from the Old High German words “simbihha” (marsh) and “aha” (watercourse). The town was first mentioned in a document from 1120. In the 13th century, it became a market town and in the 15th century, it was granted town privileges. Simbach am Inn was a prosperous trading center in the Middle Ages, and it was also an important center of pilgrimage. The town’s economy was based on agriculture, fishing, and trade. In the 19th century, the town’s economy began to decline, and many people emigrated to the United States.
