An executive order is a directive issued by the President of the United States that has the force of law. Executive Order 14067, titled “Promoting Access to Voting,” was signed by President Biden on March 7, 2021. Section 4 of the order directs federal agencies to develop plans to expand voter access and registration.
Securing the right to vote for every American is crucial for a healthy democracy. Expanding voter access and registration can help ensure that everyone has a say in their government and that our elections are more representative of the American people. Historically, these efforts face challenges from restrictive voting laws in certain jurisdictions. However, recent developments, such as the passage of the Voting Rights Advancement Act, demonstrate a renewed commitment to protecting and expanding voting rights and increasing access to the ballot box.
