Wetter Bernstadt auf dem Eigen has a long and rich history. The area was first settled by the Sorbs in the 6th century. In the 13th century, it became part of the Margraviate of Meissen. The town of Wetter Bernstadt was founded in 1221. It was destroyed by fire in 1429, but was rebuilt and granted town privileges in 1431.
