Eching am Ammersee is a municipality in the district of Landsberg am Lech in Bavaria, Germany. It is located on the western shore of Lake Ammersee, approximately 30 kilometers southwest of Munich.
The name “Eching” is derived from the Old High German word “aha,” meaning “water” and the suffix “-ing,” indicating the settlement of a people. The town was first mentioned in a document from 1020. In the 12th century, Eching became the property of the Bishop of Augsburg. It remained under the rule of the Bishop until the secularization of Bavaria in 1803.
